The clients sought to turn their backyard into a gathering area, but were met with several difficulties. Shaded by neighboring trees with intricate root systems, planting proved difficult. To conserve these roots as well as making the area usable, a raised deck was constructed. Situated as a low point in the neighborhood, the backyard naturally retained water, requiring strategic tree and plant placement for absorption. Additionally, the sloped driveway was designed to redirect rainwater, with a lengthy rain garden bordering its edge. We were able to design these thoughtful solutions to not only address drainage concerns but also create an enjoyable space for the family home.
